Welcome to "the Gnar"...
This site is designed to help find chill stuff to do and build closer relationships here in Summit County.
We're all different, but we're all pretty much the same. Some are into metal, hiphop, or country. You may ski, ride, skate, climb, jump or jib. Here's a place where you can find someone into the same things you are.
I think Bible studies are freakin sweet, so is sharing a slice and a story, hittin shows and tearin it up in the pit. Just kickin it, full moon runs in the pass, and getting involved in each others lives.
The gnar is less about playing church and more about living out our faith, making our world a little smaller, and bringing us closer as a family, especially for us Summit "kids" who are out here on our own.
Hey, this isn't just for Christians, it's for everyone, so check it out, it's not gonna hurt..haha!
News?
Something significant that happens. Summit Daily. MSNBC. CNN. They all have news.
"What about the Gnar, do they have news?"
Nope. Nada. Nothing.
"Wow, those guys are wieners."
We agree.
Summit County is so easy to miss. I havnt been able to update the gnar till now because of computer troubles. Butttt... Right now im on vacation in Montauk Long Island. My dad has been taking me and my sisters here every year since we were born. I hadnt been out here in 5 years. I came back to this place excited thinking i missed it, and still, everything is the exact same. I really hate it. i feel nothing for this place but familiarity with bordem and people. then i thought, 'this isnt just my vacation, this is my life... when i get back into old habbits and stop putting god first, i hate myself. i live for the moment hoping to have a good time. like i did before vacation. and in the end, it was really not fullfilling. But when i was involved in the church and such, tho i may not have been or felt accepted, i was full of gods love and didnt rely on others to make me feel loved. if your looking for something and dont know what or where to look, try cracking open the good book (a bible).

Its been a while, the season ended sunday with the epic blowout at the basin. My friends have moved on to their summer homes and summer lives, Others are getting married, going on vacation, planning that epic roadtrip. I'm totally stoked for the summer. Its going to be huge! The lake is beautiful, I went sailing last night and we're planning to race the kids at Frisco. Going to Californina and Seattle in a few weeks to visit one of my best friends and check out schools. I need a new bike, deck, and laptop. I want to spend more time at Woodward and learn some tricks. I want to hangglide. I don't even know where you would do that here, but I'm sure it's possible.
I've been a freak lately too!!! Man, sorting out where you are when everyone is leaving is sooooo hard. Especially when the guys you talk to are gone. So its been me and God, camping and figuring it out...the good thing is that God is freakin awesome, and God never takes the last Smore!
I fixed a broken step at the top of the stairs last night. It lost a nail and was going to pitch someone 20 feet downhill it they hit it right. I watched 5 people step on it, catch their balance and then comment that "someone should fix that", and then walk on. I was off the clock, and
on my way to my car, but turned around, went down to the shop and got the tools to do the job.
I'm learning that to lead is to serve, To be there when you're not on the clock, when your friends go away, and when the girl you like isnt the right one for you. Keep pressing in, because the right thing to do always will be.

"I was hungry and you formed a humanities club and discussed my hunger.
I was in prison and you crept off quietly and prayed for my release.
I was naked and in your mind, you debated the morality of my appearance.
I was sick and you left me alone
to pray for me.
You seem so holy, so close to God.
But i'm still very hungry, lonely, and cold.
So where have your prayers gone?
What does it profit a man to page through his book of prayers,
when the rest of the world
is crying for his help."
Love:
It's freaking spring and it seems that all my friends are getting caught up in the idea of being in love. It's infectious. I'm noticing more and more couples pairing off, checking each other out, second and third glances turning into longer looks and possible dates.
As for me, I'm casting those glances and outright stares at the tattoo and skateshops in town. I cant even try to hide it. I want a sweet Tokidoki deck and a cute culture inspired, good vs evil, art nouveau and stained glass sleeve.
I'm a romantic in the worst way, but instead of the pain of breakups I'll opt for the callous slap of my shoulder on concrete and while my friends decide if this is "the one", I'm making an artistic committment, til death do us part. :P
Checking those emotions.
Ephesians 4:23 says "Let the spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.
Put on your new nature, created to be like God."
Truly righteous and holy.
When there is a situation where worry or fear could come into play, we need to just give that to God and allow Him to renew our thoughts and attitudes towards the situation. As he renews our attitude he also
renews our emotions, and it’s not something we can do ourselves, but it is His spirit that does it for us. But we have to allow him to do it and not harbor emotions that give the enemy glory.
The enemy tries to use Gods wisdom to point out darkness and lies being told to us. The scriptures say in Ephesians 5:10-12, “carefully determine what pleases the Lord, take no part in worthless deeds of evil and darkness, instead, expose them."
It says; carefully determine what pleases the Lord. Even our emotions and our attitudes can displease the Lord, therefore when we play with those emotions and feed off of them we are taking part in worthless
deeds of evil and darkness. God says to expose that evil and darkness, give it to the Father who is all consumed in light. Then you will be
able to do his work with a renewed mind and spirit taking only emotions the spirit has to offer which are truth, love, joy, peace, grace, and it’s beautiful.
We can be consumed in that all day because it’s what we have inherited from the Father and who He is calling us to be.

I doubt that there will be too much rocks and ground up there.
We had a bit of snow. Hopefully its enough. But if you do managed
to get your board or skis scratched up, theres always SFC on sunday.

Summit County is filled with many young adults that have one thing in common. we are lonely. have you ever lie in a cold bed alone? Or how about that lone wolf feeling you had the first time you got sick after moving away from home? In Summit County, as everywhere else, we love to, and strive to be loved, coddled, comforted, and cared for. When we don’t feel these things, we sometimes look for a temp. Something that will hold the place of that ideal feeling, we feel is missing. Have you ever lie somewhere cuddling someone with no intentions but to cuddle them and feel loved, coddled, or cared for? When you feel like you’re going life alone, or you need a friend; god is always there. All you have to do is talk to him. Say, "hey god, I’m feeling pretty lonely right about now, please help!" he may not be that physical being you are longing to cuddle and make everything feel okay for
The moment, but he can bring peace, joy, and happiness that can last a life time.

Where's the snow?
I dunno. Its here. Just not enough of it. Well, its still snow. Can't complain. It beats no snow. Still, you want more. No such thing as too much snow..... Or at least
I haven't seen it yet.
Needless to say, the snow is playing hard to get. "Snow, I wish I could spend more time with you but you're never there. It makes me sad. -__- Its like you don't like me anymore. You just don't want to hang with me do you snow?"
Random personifications, just as much as the forest is alive and full of lovely beetles. ^_^
Before I get carried away about the snow...
I'm gonna ax you a question.
Have you volunteered lately or done something charitable? You should. Otherwise, you're worse than a rain cloud with no rain or a snowless peak. Not much to expect and not much to do with beyond the fact that you're just there. (Not really trying to be mean)
Be nice. Its not that hard. Right now, Aeropostale is doing their Jeans for Teens deal. Donate your old (very usable) jeans and they give you a 25% of coupon for each pair of jeans.
Thats dirt simple and you get something out of it. I don't mean the 25% off (though its a nice perk). I mean you helped out some orphans in Denver and in Haiti as well.
Also, SOS Outreach Ride day tomorrow. Props to all the volunteers, sherpas, and backup sherpas for taking the time out of their own schedules to actively make a difference in someones life. I'll be out there volunteerin'.
Btw, some of those kids ride better than me. lol.
In short, be like the gnar on a very snowy day. Lovable, soft, and worthwhile to the world around ya.
As Seen on TV
"When you have questions, where do you turn to?"
I heard this question asked on TV the other night and looked up to watch a commercial for a place called “psychic source”. They’re answer was to turn to psychic source for answers to all of your life’s questions.
God is the only one who can properly answer any questions. It is ridiculous to trust in man, whom was created with flaws. If you have ever considered going to a psychic, tarot card reader, or any other person whom claims to know your future; I have only one question. WHY!!!??? WHY in the world would you think paying someone money could answer a question better than your own Jesus Christ?! God gives his children gifts. But that does not entail playing god, or even pretending to be a prophet of his by predicting your life.
These psychics and what-not is actually Satan working. He is trying to deceive you of your right to a life run by your Lord and Savior. It can very much be related to when you buy one of those “As Seen On TV” products. It shows itself to be reputable and true on the surface, but when you get the product, it doesn’t actually work as well, if at all, as the commercial depicted it would. Then you feel deceived, angry, or upset.
What if what you got was an unfulfilled life? Wouldn’t you feel angry at god? Angry that you didn’t get to decide whom worked your life out..? Wouldn’t it make you angry if you were asked only the necessary questions, and not given the chance to fully live out and make your own choices with the guidance God gives?
Christmas in Hell?
Hey gang!!!
It's 85 and sunny in Florida!!! How's the hill? What's going on in Summit? Happy Christmas!!!
I'm forwarding you this little note. I sent this to a few people this morning with the same heart as you to help "the least of these". I hope it's encouraging for you to know that what we do here on earth has a huge effect on eternity!
-I'm in the thick of it now. Went to the park again last night to feed the hungry. 150 or more homeless and houseless came to receive a glimpse of Christ here on earth. 40 kids on break, business people, and 2 bank managers showed up to distribute food, clothes, and blankets to 150+ people that won't have what we think of as Christmas this year. We brought a worship team, a hot meal, ice cream, and lots of coffee! I'm meeting with a 26 year old kid this morning at 9, his name is Adam, he's been out of a job and apartment since August. God's speaking through this guy to some of our brothers and sisters, so we may bring him to the house today and will be getting one more person off the streets by nightfall.
This is what a group of sold out Christians do here three days a week. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday someone prays to receive Christ as their savior. That's over 600 people who now know the love of God, will see the kingdom of heaven, and spend eternity with Christ! (that's 1/4 of brecks population this year alone!)
I like snowbording, hiking, sailing and enjoying all that God has created. But stuff like this helps me to realize just how self isolated I've become to his will and helping"the least of these."
You may be the one link to Jesus a kid on the lift has before she misses her line, hits a tree and dies. It happens. How many people will spend eternity in hell because we were too afraid to have one awkward conversation? What if that's your best friend? Girlfriend? Dad, or Mom? If you're unsure of where your friends stand in relationship to God, don't be afraid to ask. It might be the best gift you can give!
Good luck!
Happy Christmas!
Make a difference!
-until the whole world hears!
